Hace unas semanas tuvo lugar la Gala del Met, un evento benéfico anual que da inicio a la exposición de moda anual del Instituto del Vestido del Museo Metropolitano de Arte de Nueva York. La Gala del Met reune a las más importantes celebrities, empresarios, modelos y diseñadores de todo el mundo, los cuales deben vestirse de acuerdo al tema del año, y es ahí donde reside el encanto de esta celebración.

El dress code propuesto para este año era Cuerpos celestiales: Moda y la imaginación católica. Por alguna razón, desde siempre me ha atraído muchísimo toda la iconografía y simbolismo cristiano y creo que es una gran fuente de inspiración para la moda, por eso, cuando vi los estilismos de los asistentes a esta gala no pude resistirme a hacer un post sobre ello.

Few weeks ago, the Met Gala took place. This is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. Each year’s event gathers the most important celebrities, bussinesmen, models and fashion designers. This guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit.

The theme of this year’s event was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. For some reason I’ve always found the christian iconography and symbolism very appealing, and, also, I consider it as a important source of inspiration for fashion. So, when I saw the outfits from the red carpet of the Met Gala I couldn’t wait to write about it.

MADONNA

Madonna acudió al evento con un imponente vestido negro firmado por Jean Paul Gaultier. Destaca sobre todo la magnífica corona de cruces que adorna su cabeza, haciéndola lucir como una auténtica emperatriz.

Madonna went to the event with this amazing black dress designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Stands out the magnificent crown with crosses in her head, she looks like a total empress.

AMBER HEARD

Otra que lució un impresionante tocado fue Amber Heard. La actriz eligió un precioso vestido rojo para completar su imagen de virgen moderna en un look minimalista pero muy efectista.

Other woman with an impressive headdress was Amber Heard. The actress chose a beautiful red dress to look like as a modern virgin in a minimalist but spectacular look.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON

También me gustó mucho el outfit con vibes virginales de Rosie. Lucía totalmente celestial con esa aureola y el vestido brillante de Ralph Lauren.

I also liked the virgin vibes of the Rosie’s outfit. She looks heavenly with the halo in her head and the shining dress by Ralph Lauren.

LILY COLLINS

Lily Collins sorprendió a todos con un estilismo gótico-punk futurista que, a pesar de esa especie de aureola que llevaba, a mi me recordaba más a una monja que a una virgen ¿Llevarán este tipo de hábitos las monjas en el futuro? Ojalá. Mención especial al maquillaje que llevaban Lily, con esos brillantes en los ojos y el detalle de la lágrima.

Lily Collins surprised everyone with this futuristic goth-punk outfit. Despite the halo, she reminds me not a virgin but a nun. Will nuns wear this habit in the future? I wish. Special mention to Lily’s make up with diamonds in her eyes and the tear detail.

ZENDAYA

El estilismo de Zendaya fue uno de los más guays de todos. Logró parecer una auténtica guerrera al más puro estilo Juana de Arco gracias a este vestido de Versace que imitaba la armadura de los trajes medievales.

Zendaya’s outfit was one of the coolest of the night. She looked like a warrior such as Joan of Arc due to the outstanding Versace’s dress which imitates medieval warriors armor.

JENNIFER LÓPEZ

Otra guerrera fue Jennifer López, que se veía increíble. Su vestido parecía inspirado en los caballeros de las Cruzadas. Además los detalles de la cruz que llevaba en el pecho me recordaban a las vidrieras de las catedrales renacentista.

Another warrior woman was Jennifer López who looked amazing. Her dress was inspired in the Crusades knights. Also, the cross in her chest reminds me the stained glass of Renaissance cathedrals.

LANA DEL REY

Terminamos con mi querida Lana del Rey y su espectacular look. Su atuendo era una representación clara de la Virgen de los Dolores, con los siete puñales clavados en el pecho en representación de los siete dolores que María tuvo que soportar durante su vida. Llama la atención también la aureola que llevaba, adornada con plumas azules. Alessandro Michele, director creativo de Gucci, y Jared Leto completaban este cuadro religioso.

We end up with my dear Lana del Rey and her astounding attire. Her outfit was an exact reproduction of Our Lady of Sorrows with seven long knives or daggers piercing her heart which is a representation of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Stands out also the halo decorated with blue feathers. Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director, and Jared Leto completed this religious picture.
