REX MANNING DAY OUTFITS

Como cada 8 de abril, aquí está la más sagrada de las festividades: el día de Rex Manning. Sin duda, hay infinidad de planes para hacer en un día como este, lo único de lo que debemos preocuparnos es de elegir el outfit perfecto, así que he decidido crear algunas ideas de outfits basadas en la ropa que llevan los personajes de Empire Records.

It’s april the 8th, and the holiest of holidays: Rex Manning Day. There are a lot of things to do in such a special day. We only have to care about choosing the perfect outfit. So, I decided to give us some ideas based in the clothes of Empire Records’s characters.

Lucas es mi personaje favorito, cada cosa que dice es simplemente genial. Su estilo es simple pero funciona. Indispensable la chupa de cuero si pretendes pasar el día de Rex Manning yendo en moto hasta Atlantic City. Pensé que sería diverdo incluir el estampado de leopardo del sofá en el outfit en foma de bolso.

Lucas is my favorite character from Empire Records. Every single word that comes from his mouth is great. His style is simple but effective. Won’t forget the leather jacket if you think on expend Rex Manning Day going to Atlantic City in motorbike. I thought that it would be funny include the couch’s pattern in the outfit as a purse.

Gina es una chica segura de sí misma que no tiene miedo de enseñar un poco de piel. Una minifalda, unos tacones con plataforma y lista para bailar «Say No More Mon Amour» toda la noche.

Gina is a confident girl and she’s not afraid of showing some skin. A mini skirt, a pair of platform heels and you’re ready to dance «Say no more mon amour» all night long.

Mark es un espíritu libre y le gusta estar lo más cómodo posible para trabajar en la tienda hasta media noche. No obstante, también es fan de Axl Rose, y eso se ve en la cadena plateada que lleva que le da el toque «metálico».

Mark is a free spirit and he likes to be comfy at work (they open ‘till midnight!). However, he’s an Axl Rose fan and keeps the «metallic» touch with the silver chain necklace.

Es 2018 y la igualdad sigue siendo una utopía. Afortunadamente, aquí tengo una lista con algunas de mis películas favoritas con las que inspirarnos gracias a estas poderosas mujeres.

It’s 2018 and equality is still an utopy. Fortunately, here’s some of my favourite films to get inspired by these powerful women.

PELÍCULAS / FILMS

TCJYB

No hay nada más poderoso que una mujer, excepto quizás cuatro adolescentes con poderes de bruja. Y de eso va Jóvenes y Brujas, de eso y de que no hay nada de malo en ser diferente, de hecho, ese es nuestro mayor poder. Esta película nos dice que no debemos tener miedo a no encajar, ¿quién sabe? Quizás conozcas a tres bichos raros como tú y seais amigas para siempre. Más razones para verla vibes de los 90 y ocho palabras: ligera como una pluma, rígida como una tabla.

Nothing’s more powerful than a woman but, how about four teenage girls with witch powers? And that’s the Craft’s main subject, and the fact that there is no problem with being different, that is our great power. This movie shakes off the fear of not fitting in. Who knows? Maybe you will meet other weirdos like you and all of you would be friends forever. More reasons to watch it 90s vibes and eight words: light as a feather stiff as a board.

Disney también puede tener películas feministas y Mulán es una prueba de ello. La película va sobre una chica que tiene que fingir ser un hombre para poder alistarse en el ejército, salvando así la vida de su padre (y de toda China de paso) ¿Cuántas de nuestras heroínas feministas han tenido que travestirse para poder acceder a campos reservados únicamente a los hombres como, por ejemplo, la universidad? Puntos extra: la banda sonora y todos los momentos divertidos con Mushu.

Disney has feminist films as well and Mulan proves it. A young lady who has to pretend she is a boy in order to save her father’s life (and all China, btw). How many of our feminist heroines had to crossdressing as a way to access to men’s reserved fields such as college? Extra points: BSO, and funny Mushu’s scenes.

A simple vista, Una Rubia Muy Legal puede parecer la típica comedia tonta, sin embargo,  encierra mensajes feministas muy importantes. Por ejemplo: que ser una apasionada de la moda no está reñido con ir a la universidad, que nunca hay que rendirse y que la autoestima es más importante que el amor romántico.

Legally Blonde seems the typical silly comedy film but it has very powerful messages for women. For example: fashion and college are compatible, never give up and self-esteem is more important than romantic love.

CFDO

¿Otra comedia tonta? Puede, pero lo bueno de Fuera de Onda es que reivindica la amistad entre mujeres empoderadas que se apoyan unas en otras. Sí, puede que Cher y sus amigas estén un poco obsesionadas también con la ropa y la belleza pero ¿y qué?

Another silly comedy film? Maybe but Clueless shows us that is possible the friendship between empowered women who support each other. Yeah, maybe Cher and her friends are a little bit obsessed with fashion and beauty, so what?

 

BUFFY’S PROM DRESS

In this new section I will review some of the looks and outfits from films that I like most or I find amazing and inspiring. Hope you like it! ♡

Para esta entrada he decidido centrarme en la película de Buffy Cazavampiros. Quizás algunos no lo sepais, pero antes de que existiera la serie, en 1992 (por cierto, año en el que nací) se estrenó esta película protagonizada por Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland y Luke Perry.

In this post I want to focus in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Maybe some of you didn’t know, but, before it was a tv serie, in 1992 (btw, my birth year) Buffy was release as a movie starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland and Luke Perry.

Pues bien, sin hacer muchos spoilers por si no la habeis visto, os diré que al final de la película, nuestra protagonista Buffy asiste al típico baile de graduación americano y lo hace enfundada en un precioso vestido blanco.

I don’t want to make spoilers so, I just going to say that at the end of the film, Buffy goes to the typical american prom night wearing a beautiful white dress.

¿A que es bonito? Aunque sí, igual puede resultar un poco cursi al ser tan recargado. Este vestido es muy estilo años 50, me recuerda mucho a los que llevaba Marilyn Monroe.

It is lovely, isn’t it? However, it can be a little bit cheesy with all the ornaments. It looks like the dresses from 50’s decade and especially, the ones that Marilyn Monroe used to wear.

Además, la melena rubia de Buffy hace que el parecido con esta actriz sea más evidente. Pero, sobre todo, el contraste del pelo claro con las cejas oscuras y el recogido me recuerda muchísimo al estilo que llevaba Madonna a finales de los 80 cuando sacó el álbum True Blue.

Moreover, Buffy’s blonde hair makes her similarity with Marilyn more evident. Nevertheless, it is clear to me that her brown eyebrows and hairstyle are influenced by Madonna‘s look in True Blue.

Así que Buffy tiene un vestido bonito y algo cursi en su baile de graduación ¿eso es todo? No, aún no os he contado lo mejor. Durante el baile de graduación a Buffy se le engancha su vestido, y al tirar de él, se arranca toda la parte de abajo, quedando un vestido corto, después de esto, su novio, Pike le deja su chupa de cuero.

So, she has a beautiful/cheesy dress, that’s all? Absolutely not, I haven’t tell you the best part yet. During the prom, Buffy’s dress had been hooked, so she ripped the fabric out turning it in a short dress. After that, her boyfriend Pike gives her his leather jacket.

La chupa de cuero negra le da al conjunto mucha fuerza y hace que un simple vestido blanco tenga ese punto original y rockero. Y así es como un vestido para el baile de graduación se combierte en un look para ir a matar vampiros.

The biker gives the strength that the outfit needs. With the leather jacket, a simple white dress can be original and rocker. And that’s how a prom night dress turns into the perfect outfit to kill vampires.
